Typical Interview Questions

Interviews can be incredibly nerve-wracking. If you don't feel prepared for your interview it is easy to feel more nervous than necessary. Listed below are some typical interview questions. Practice with these so that you will have more confidence at your next interview.

  1. What are your greatest strengths or positive traits?
  2. What are your greatest weaknesses or areas in which you wish to improve?
  3. What are the most important things you are looking for in a job?
  4. What would previous or current co-workers say about you, good and bad?
  5. What type of co-worker do you find it difficult to work with?
  6. Describe the best boss you ever had and explain what you liked about the style of supervision.
  7. Who is the one person you consider to be a mentor or role model and what strengths does that person have that would you like to emulate?
  8. If you could have dinner with one person living or dead, who would you choose? (NOTE: avoid the knee-jerk response to say "living"!)
  9. What is the most fun you have ever had at a job?
  10. What is the most rewarding experience you have ever had at a job?
  11. Describe a difficult situation that you have had to deal with at a job.
  12. What is the biggest mistake you have made at a job?
  13. How organized are you and what do you do to stay organized?
  14. What are your long-term career goals?
  15. Do you have any questions for us? (NOTE: it is good to have some insightful questions about the position, the hours, the payment, etc. Employers like to see that you have genuine interest in the specifics of the position).
