Walt Disney World Tips
Walt Disney World is a huge and possibly overwhelming place. I am providing these courtesy tips to help families have a safe, efficient, affordable, and fun trip.
Hotel tips
Disney has some really awesome hotels for those that can afford $100-300 a night, so if that works for you, more power to you.
For the rest of us, Disney also offers the more affordable All-Star resort hotels which are also very nice and provide bus service directly to all of the Disney parks. Staying at a Disney hotel also means that you get extra magic hours - so you will theoretically be able to get on rides with relatively little waiting time.
One warning about the extra magic hours - the parks that have magic hours will tend to be busy during the rest of the day, since the resort residents are added to the regular park attendance. So if you have park-hopper passes, to go to the park during its magic hours and then head to a different park for the rest of the day.
Dining Tips
There are many restaurants in a varety of price ranges throughout the park. You should explore the map for dining areas within your budget.
Often the first item on the menu is pricy but offers a lot of food. Consider sharing this item with someone else, rather than buying two meals.
You can ask for your overpriced soda without ice in order to get more for your money, but the cheaper and healthier solution is to carry a water bottle with you that you can fill up at any of the water fountains around the park.
Ride Tips
The best way to get on the rides that you want fast, is to use the Fastpass. Simply put your park ticket into a Fastpass machine and you will be issued a Fastpass with a specific return time stamped on it. If it is an hour or more until your Fastpass will be valid, then take the opportunity to ride something with a short standby line, and then return to use your Fastpass when it is ready.
There are a few rides in which you are huddled into a room for a pre-ride teaser, if you know where the exit door for the ride is, then you may be able to bypass 20-30 other riders.
One of them is the Haunted Mansion. When you are crowded into the "dead center" of the chamber with "no windows and no doors," position yourself under the photograph of the lady with an umbrella. When the door opens in front of you, exit and be the first of your group on the ride.
The Twilight Zone tower of terror has a similar room with a t.v. teaser. Simply position yourself at the adjacent corner from the t.v., near the model seaship and you will be right next to the open door.
